Psychotherapy is the use of psychological methods, particularly when based on regular personal interaction to improve an individual’s well-beings and mental health, to resolve or mitigate troublesome behaviours, beliefs, compulsions, thoughts, or emotions, and to improve relationships and social skills. It is the informed and intentional application of clinical methods and interpersonal derived from established psychological principles.

In a nut shell it can be described that it is a treatment of mental or emotional illness by verbal communications about problems rather than by using medicine or drugs.

Insight therapy works on helping the individual gain understanding into their disorder; the ‘why’s and the ‘how’s’. The idea is once an individual understands why they feel or think like this, they can engage in ways to change it.
